For the Trailmen’s first December meeting there was a change of pace. After several meetings focusing on the Heritage and Outdoor skills Branches, they turned their attention to the Sports and Fitness branch. The pictures show how much the boys enjoyed the first step of this branch and its balance of nutrition and physical competition.
It is not good to eat much honey,
so be sparing of complimentary words.
After a roundtable discussion of what nutrition was, examples of healthy and unhealthy foods, allergies, and the effects of poor nutrition, each boy reviewed a copy of suggested foods and serving sizes.
The boys then moved to a table where a variety of mostly healthy foods were laid out. They were tasked with making their own bag of trail mix. However, before digging in they identified which items were proteins and which were carbohydrates, and how both provided different types of energies. Then they dug in!

Love not sleep, lest you come to poverty;
open your eyes, and you will have plenty of bread.
With Trail mix in hand the boys then returned for a quick discussion about fitness. A variety of exercises where demonstrated and then a small shuttle run race was designed by the boys. It is amazing how quickly boys can run if they know they are being timed. These boys ran and also did their burpees, push-ups, flutter kicks, and jumping jacks! Every boy was laughing and encouraging one another to do well.

Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.
After the official meeting concluded, the boys continued working on their “sports” branch by playing some more foosball. An OR-1531 favorite!
Excellent !!!
