On the first Tuesday of February, the St. Joseph Trailmen built upon their previous knowledge of Hobbies and gave their presentations.
I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths.
– Proverbs 4:11
The presentations were an opportunity for each Trailman to not only share their knowledge, but learn a little bit about public speaking. Each presenter shared their hobby, showed an example of it, and explained what good habits (virtues) their hobby builds. One boys shared his currency collection, which was organized in an alblum. He had money from five different continents, including a five hundered billion dollar bill from Zimbabwe. Along with the baseball card and rock collecting (other presentations), this hobby fostered the good habits of patience, tenacity, and thoroughness.
After presentations were completed the Trailmen broke up into different groups to explore a new hobby, model buliding. The boys and their dads were throughly engaged from here on out. Some working on a Saturn V Apollo Rocket, others on an A-10, and others creating scenery for a N gague model scene.
One reader of our blog mentioned that hobbies can often result in full-time employment later. This point was shared with the boys, using the example of model builders helping with the creation the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.
